IT’S GO TIME: We need your help
We’vee been through the wringer, but we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel—and we're ready to build this bike park.
So, what's happened so far?
A lot.
Over the past several months we've crossed off some major milestones. Zoning is approved, the building has been cleaned and painted, and we've moved all of the materials we saved from The Wheel Mill into their new home. We've built test ramps, finalized layouts, installed our WiFi, phones, security system and sound system, tackled utility work, and even opened Pittsburgh's only BMX shop along the way.
But it definitely hasn't been without challenges.
Between two torn ACLs, a broken ankle, countless meetings with architects, engineers and the city, and months of navigating the permitting process for a 50,000-square-foot building, it's been one hurdle after another. We even spent months working through building code requirements that were originally written for gyms—not indoor bike parks. After appeals, meetings, and plenty of persistence, we've finally worked through the biggest roadblocks, including our fire protection requirements.
Today, we're incredibly close to the finish line.
Our electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and zoning permits have all been accepted. We've submitted the final requested revisions for our ADA and Life Safety plans, and once those receive approval, we're officially full speed ahead.
While we wait for those final approvals, we're not sitting still. We're meeting with vendors, coordinating with our builders, organizing materials, and preparing every detail so construction can begin the moment we get the green light.
We Need Your Help
Now comes the part where we ask for your support.
On our bike shop website, you'll find a list of symbolic items that help fund the actual materials needed to build the park. Instead of making a traditional donation, you can "purchase" things like a sprinkler head, a bag of concrete, lumber, fasteners, and other building supplies. Every symbolic purchase directly helps us buy the real materials needed to make this park a reality.
Every contribution, big or small, gets us one step closer to opening the doors.
Where Your Money Has Gone
One thing we've always wanted to do is be completely transparent about this project. We hope sharing these numbers not only shows where your support is going, but also helps anyone who dreams of building a bike park in their own city understand just how massive an undertaking this really is.
Here's where we've invested funds so far:
Architects & Engineering: $49,766.00
We shopped multiple firms, negotiated pricing, and worked every angle to keep these costs as low as possible. Even so, this is where we landed.
Fire-rated garage door: $10,217.00
Required to separate the building into two fire zones.
Fire alarm system deposit: $13,900.00
Water fountains: $1,736.28
Lumber: $5,652.
We purchased material early because of fluctuating lumber prices.
Utilities: Over $50,000.00
Insurance: $6,240.49
Concrete: $1,075.76
Bike Displays: $750.00
Bike Shop Tools: $650.00
Fasteners (so far): $2,549.86
And that's just a snapshot. There are countless additional expenses—from permit fees and inspections to equipment, materials, and everything in between—that continue to add up as we move toward construction.
We're committed to sharing this journey openly because this isn't just our bike park—it's something our entire community is helping build.
The next phase is the exciting one. The permits are almost complete, the plans are finalized, the builders are getting ready, and soon this empty building will start transforming into the bike park we've all been dreaming about.
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who's supported us so far.
Now...
Let's build a bike park.
